TDG orders 800-strong LINDE forklift truck fleet
Supply chain management specialist TDG has signed a five-year contract that will see the group deploying 800 Linde forklift trucks to handle logistics operations at 100 of their customers’ sites across the UK. As well as a growing global network, TDG has freight forwarding interests in a wide range of European markets, including Ireland.
Although TDG and Linde have been working together for more than ten years the contract renewal involved tough negotiations. “The selection process was undertaken by a TDG core team of operators and technical experts,” explains Jonathan Fletcher, TDG Procurement Director. “They comprehensively looked at ways to find further benefits to pass on to our customers, whilst ensuring the equipment met the stringent demands of the operations.”
One of the ways in which Linde will make the TDG fleet more cost-effective is through deploying high-frequency chargers for all the electric forklift fleet by the end of this year. “We now have an improved, cost-effective replacement cycle coupled to all our electric fleet using HF chargers,” says Jonathan Fletcher. These chargers are designed to reduce operating costs and charge cycle times, as well as reducing TDG’s carbon footprint through a more efficient use of electricity.
TDG’s operations are so varied that its fleet includes at least one of almost every type of product produced by Linde. “We are delighted to win this new contract,” says Andrew Daly, Linde’s UK Sales and Marketing Director. “TDG works with very demanding customers and needs its suppliers to help it add value, so we are committed to continue seeking better ways of working together to achieve this.”
One of the world’s leading manufacturers of forklift trucks and warehouse equipment, the Linde brand is market leader in the UK. The company is also one of the most important producers of hydrostatic and electric drives. As well as new equipment, Linde has a comprehensive range of second-hand trucks for sale, as well as trucks available for short-term rental.
The group’s wholly-owned Irish subsidiary, Linde Material Handling (Ireland) Limited, is based in Dublin 12. Last year the Irish company launched a new website dedicated to offering quality used forklifts to those Irish buyers seeking the benefits of the renowned German engineering and robustness that have always been the hallmark of the brand.
