BUCKETS ARE NOT PILEDRIVERS
The UK’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued an urgent warning to agricultural workers against the practice of using telehandler buckets to drive in fencing posts. The warning comes as a result of fatalities where buckets have become detached and have fallen on to co-workers beneath them.
Some telehandler operators use the bucket as a ‘hammer head’ by bringing it down hard onto the fence post. However upon impact, the bucket can become detached from the carriage. Two workers were killed in separate such incidents in Yorkshire within the past twelve months, while others have been severely injured.
