International freight forwarder SBS has found a simple, greener way to fit more books inside a sea container, which means publishers can save 15% on freight costs by loading up to 30% more books inside.
At the recent London Book Fair, Steve Walker of SBS explained: “There’s no magic involved. We just looked at the space wooden pallets took up inside a shipping container and figured there must be a better way.” The answer: cardboard slipsheets – used in conjunction with a forklift attachment. “So now, someone shipping 1,000 containers a year needs to ship only 865.
