LINDE gets on track for Murdoch

Linde on track for murdockUnusual handling tasks are part of JM Murdoch’s everyday workload – a typical one being the delivery of a full-size mocked-up train for display at Glasgow Central Station.

The new mock-up carriages were fully equipped with seats and toilets, but lacked one vital element – the wheels. “We needed an 8-tonne forklift, with extra along forks, to lift the carriages off the trucks and to help move it up a steep ramp to the display area. It also needed to operate in quite a confined space,” explained Frank Cargill of JM Murdoch, who used a specially equipped Linde diesel forklift to carry out the job.

Although the H80 forklift was needed for only one weekend, the whole project took months or organise. A thorough risk assessment had to be carried out beforehand, as the railway station has very strict rules about what can and can’t be done, even in the middle of the night when the operation was taking place.

Linde Material Handling is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of forklift trucks and warehouse equipment and is one of the most important producers of hydrostatic and electric drives. The company’s comprehensive range of equipment is distributed in the Republic by Dublin-based Linde Material Handling (Ireland) Limited.
