GO-AHEAD FOR CHARGING SYSTEM

The European Union has begun work on a common charging system for electric vehicles, with the EU standardisation groups and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute to agree on the appearance and operation of a plug and socket system for green vehicles. The objective is to develop such a system for all EU countries by mid-2011.

With cars such as the full-electric Nissan Leaf, Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iOn due to go on sale in Europe later this year, it is considered essential that a standardised charging system is in place as soon as possible.
